Tata Motors is rethinking its strategy and looking for various possibilities of additional body styles that could further expand SUV into different family of models. The company is looking to explore variants that could sit above Sierra without overlapping Harrier, Safari or Curvv.

As the standard Sierra is finally launched in the Indian market, Tata is looking to attach a longer-wheelbase 3-row version. As per executives, the extension of the Sierra lineup can generate a huge amount of sales by maintaining a clear gap from the Harrier & Safari. Thus there is a requirement of a 7-seater that would allow Tata to enhance the Sierra branding.

Thus a 3-row Sierra could find a perfect balance between the current model and full-size D-segment SUVs.

ARGOS Platform can accommodate multiple body styles

The ARGOS (All-Terrain Ready, Omni Energy and Geometry Scalable Architecture) serves as the foundation for ICE Sierra and can accommodate multiple powertrains like petrol, diesel, CNG, and hybrid powertrains.

The Managing Director & CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd, defines ARGOS as “the highest-scale architecture invented by Tata Motors” which includes the addition of a new platform called as powertrain family, with advanced manufacturing systems.

The good news is that ARGOS also supports AWD hardware integrated with multiple wheelbase options and different interior layouts. This flexibility will make the Sierra capable of AWD version making it technically feasible without major changes to the core structure.

However, Tata will make the final call on these upcoming models, once the Sierra’s market performance shows remarkable improvement.
