Tesla is revising their strategies as they are falling backwards in sales. The company has revised their strategies and are all set to cater to a wider audience than just having a tag of premium auto manufacturers, and that’s why Tesla is all set to introduce cost-effective versions of its hugely popular SUV, the Model Y standard.

The budget friendly Model Y standard is priced competitively at a starting price of $41,360 (Approx Rs 34.7 Lakh) which also includes destination charges. The new entry level version now costs around $5000 (Rs 4.2 Lakh) less than the previous base model. This indicates that Tesla is willing to reach a larger number of customers without compromising the brand’s top level premiumness.

As Tesla is recognised for its advanced technology more than its pricing, this is a smart move by the company as Model Y is the Tesla’s most successful product which is a family-oriented SUV that continues to undercut its competitors from California all the way to Shanghai.

Tesla’s Revised Strategy

By positioning the Tesla Model Y Standard to cost-effective buyers and reach a wider audience, Tesla’s new strategy includes bringing the higher costs down by introducing new products which are cost-effective and attracting aspirational customers who once found their products out of their reach, which is pretty good as they are addressing the rising competition in the global EV market.

This cost-effective variant brings Tesla’s ownership within reach for new EV users, as the company is not undercutting and thereby retaining the central software-driven seamless experience that has given the brand a competitive advantage and a unique identity. Thus Model Y standard is a bold strategic move by creating a perfect blend between high-end electric mobility without sacrificing Tesla’s DNA.

However in terms of looks, the Model Y standard is quite familiar and the panoramic glass roof is replaced by a solid metal roof, thus compromising on openness for enhanced cabin insulation.

On the inside, the seats come equipped with fabric trim instead of leather and the signature front light bar has been replaced with traditional lighting, followed by the taillights which have been replaced with the ones found in previous models.

However, Tesla has retained the clean, aerodynamic shape of an SUV which feels like Tesla. It also retains the bare-minimal proportions, flush door handles and tight body lines that give it a modern appearance. `

On the inside, things are pretty much the same, as Tesla’s cockpit is dominated by a substantial 15.4-inch touchscreen unit placed at the center that controls all the functions of the car. However, several comfort features are sacrificed to position it in a cost-effective way.

The steering wheel is manually adjustable, with front seats with no ventilation provided and rear seats also missing with the heating functionality. The company has also dropped the 8-inch rear touchscreen system for backseat passengers.

Tesla Model Y Standard Technical Specs

Tesla has undercut various features in the name of affordability but performance has not taken a backseat as Model Y Standard is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor paired with a 69.5 kWh battery pack, generating a maximum power output of 300 HP.

Tesla has claimed an estimated range of 517 Km on a single charge, with a 0-100 km/hr in just 6.8 seconds, which is fast enough for a rear-wheel drive SUV. In comparison, the Model Y Long Range version offered in India via imports provides a range of 574 Km on a single charge and can sprint from 0-100 km/hr in just 5.7 seconds, but it is also costlier.
