This attention has indicated the futuristic advancements in electric mobility, which Xiaomi has achieved with their latest offerings just after the launch of their SU7 sedan which is the brand’s first electric car.

Xiaomi’s EV strategy gains traction

Xiaomi’s EV strategy has garnered a lot of traction and this has been statistically proven as according to reports from Car news China, Xiaomi has received 2,00,000 refundable pre-orders for their electric SUV, YU7 just after three minutes of launch which is a next-level record. This figure went to a staggering 2,89,000 within an hour, with more than 2.4 Lakh customers showing a confirmed purchase.

This legendary response has opened to a significant growth in the global EV industry. The YU7 is available for users with three ordering options in China which is as follows:

  • Regular pre-order that comes into finalisation mode after a week.
  • Non-refundable instant order.
  • Priority Delivery which grants early access to the vehicle.

Xiaomi YU7: Design Engineering & Performance

The recently launched YU7 has taken the majority of design inspiration from the brand’s first offering, the SU7 sedan, just like many performance SUVs like Porsche Macan and Ferrari Purosangue. Xiaomi has offered the YU7 with single motor and dual motor configurations.

POWER: The base model gets the single motor setup, while the dual-motor is powered by all-wheel drive, generating a combined power of 288 kW and 528 Nm of peak torque. As per CLTC test cycle, the YU7 is providing an exceptional range of 835 Km for the rear-wheel drive variant, featuring a 96.3 kWh battery pack. The range topping all-wheel drive Pro model with a significant 760 Km, provided with the same battery pack.

While the top of the line model of YU7 comes with a bigger 101.7 kWh battery pack integrated with AWD technology provides a decent range of 770 Km on a single charge.

Price: The YU7 is available at an introductory price of 253,500 Yuan (Approx) and has undercut the introductory price of China’s Tesla Model Y with a price difference of 10,000 Yuan, thus becoming a value for money choice in mid-premium EV SUV category.

Global Aspirations Spark Anticipation

The CEO of Xiaomi William Lu has reflected on the global aspirations of the company shaping up with this thundering response and has confirmed that the company will be ramping up the production of their EVs worldwide in the coming years. The company is also focussing on expanding their dealerships to 10,000 retail stores to be established outside China by 2029, in order to regulate the rising demand.

However, Xiaomi has not specified the global markets they have planned to set up their EV footprint. The SU7’s emerging success has also found interests beyond China, as Ford CEO Jim Farey has admitted that he is driving the Xiaomi SU7 and has praised the vehicle’s performance and build quality of the car.

Xiaomi’s advancements in EV technology and blending performance seamlessly with their well engineered and beautifully crafted cars has just shown an exceptional demand among a wide range of consumers, which just signifies that Xiaomi is moving at a rapid pace in EV race and might soon end up in first position globally outnumbering their competition.
