TVS has finally launched their much awaited electric scooter, Orbiter at an introductory price of Rs 99,990 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru, price includes the PM e-Drive scheme as well). TVS has positioned the Orbiter below the iQube, thus rebranding it as the entry level scooter of the company, and making it a cost-effective variant for those consumers who are looking for scooters in the Rs 1 lakh range.
TVS Orbiter Battery & Tech
The TVS Orbiter is powered by a single 3.1 kWh battery pack and TVS says, with this battery pack, the Orbiter provides a claimed range of 158 KM (IDC range). For comparison, the iQube featuring 2.2 kWh battery pack gives a claimed range of 94 Km IDC, and in real-world tests it gives approximately 76.4 Km of range, specifically in Eco Mode, which is exactly as per TVS claimed real-world range.
Going by that, the Orbiter could provide a real-world range of 120 Km on a single charge, but these are just speculations until it is tested in real-world circumstances. One of the most interesting things is that TVS has equipped the bigger 14-inch front wheel and 12-inch rear wheel, which is the same wheel size given with its rivals like River Indie and Ola S1 Z with a substantially bigger wheel size.
Coming to the tech features, the Orbiter is loaded with advanced tech which is connected from a mobile app that provides seamless navigation, over-the-air updates, and safety alerts which includes anti-theft, and geo-fencing notifications.
The energy of the Orbiter could be channelised via two modes such as Eco and Power. Safety features include hill-hold assist, parking assist with an integrated reverse functionality and cruise control.
TVS Orbiter New Design and Styling
The design of the Orbiter is quite simple and boxy, reminiscent of old scooters. The design also features fewer flowing lines and there is an addition of a big side panel which begins from the front apron and goes up to the tail as one piece, giving it a unique yet imposing side profile, thus giving the e-scooter its own appeal and identity.
On the front, the LED headlamp is placed on the handlebar and features a RoboCop-like LED light strip which runs across the apron, which gives a striking resemblance to TVS Jupiter. TVS has also concentrated on providing maximum practicality, by offering 34-litres of underseat storage, which is big enough to accommodate two helmets as stated by TVS.
Apart from that, the Orbiter also gets 290 mm flat floorboard and it comes with a total of six colour shade options. TVS has smartly engineered the Orbiter by providing a perfect balance between practicality and advanced technology, thus making it a perfect offering for family oriented consumers just like Ather Rizta.
