Vinfast is set to develop EVs tailored for the Indian market and has expanded its manufacturing facility.

Vinfast is planning to design, develop and manufacture electric vehicles specifically for India as it has diversified its operations in the country. The Vietnamese EV manufacturer has also received investment approval for Phase 2 of its Thootukudi plant situated in Tamil Nadu. 

Although, the company has not disclosed the investment amount, additional production capacity for or timeline for the expansion. Vinfast has stated that upcoming models will not simply be existing products adapted for India. The company is planning to develop them specifically for local requirements with a higher level of localisation. 

The company also did a comprehensive market study and customer clinics in order to understand Indian customer requirements. Thus various suggestions from these exercises are further utilized to make changes to their existing products such as the VF6 and VF7 for the Indian market. 

The CKD assembly for VF6 and VF7 is set to continue.

Vinfast assembles the VF6 and VF7 from completely knocked down (CKD) kits situated at its Thootukudi facility. According to the company, they have neither changed or suspended their production plans for the upcoming two SUVs, as they will be continuing the CKD assembly process for India. 

Vinfast has clarified that India is a very important marker for their long-term business and manufacturing strategy, adding that the initial response to its products has helped it rank among the five largest electric passenger vehicle brands in India.
