Yamaha will present groundbreaking electric and hybrid two-wheeler concepts at the Tokyo Motor Show.

This year at the Tokyo Motor Show, Yamaha will be displaying a total of 6 world premiere models and a total of 16 advanced concepts which includes prototypes under development phase, followed by a variety of electric and hybrid motorcycles and eBikes. This show will commence from 29th October and will conclude till 9th November. Let’s discuss four varieties of different concepts for upcoming Yamaha two-wheelers.
Proto BEV
This is the first revolutionary concept of Yamaha, branded as Proto BEV which looks like an aerodynamic sporty design as compared to the radical concepts showcased on the platform with it. According to Yamaha, this concept was engineered around the basic concept of “Fun that can only be experienced through large-capacity battery EV.”
The large-capacity EV comes with a significantly higher kerb-weight because of the larger battery pack but the company claims that lightness and compactness has been given an emphasis, resulting in a fun-to-drive electric machine.
The Proto BEV is inclined more towards supersport motorcycling, indicating that this particular electric motorcycle is exclusively made for track use. The company states that they have extensively used the technology of high-performance motorsport to engineer this machine.
This electric sportsbike will also include human-machine interaction, which is exclusively made in order to increase the rider’s attention and focus on track by providing visual yet aural data and other statistics about the bike’s overall performance.

H2 Buddy Porter Concept
The Buddy Porter concept has been designed to position a totally opposite segment compared to the performance-oriented Proto BEV. It is jointly co-engineered with Toyota Motor Corporation, which has crafted a completely new compact, high pressure hydrogen tank specifically for motorcycles and scooters. As per Yamaha, it has been certified by important regulatory organizations.
True to its name, this concept is powered by a hydrogen-based concept designed for urban commuters by providing a significant range of 100 km on a single charge. Visually, it has a striking resemblance with a canopy, though it is a two-wheeler and also comes with rear storage which includes two hydrogen tanks.
Yamaha states that it has been designed according to various technical requirements for public-road use which implies current regulations.

XMAX Series (Hybrid Scooters)
Apart from this, Yamaha has also displayed various earlier concepts with mid-cycle developments, one of which is the most popular XMAX series of hybrid scooters. It comes powered with a single-cylinder engine and an electric motor, and as per Yamaha, XMAX SHEV can also extract electric power.
MT-09 Hybrid Concept
At last, Yamaha has also taken the wraps of the MT-09 inspired hybrid that can seamlessly shift between petrol and electric power. In 2025, Yamaha’s focus will be innovating electric mobility by alternative powertrains comprising electric and hybrid systems.
