The 2027 Porsche Taycan has been revealed, featuring simulated gearshifts.
Porsche has taken the wraps off the 2027 Taycan with substantial mechanical upgrades. The electric sportscar now comes with simulated gearshifts just like Hyundai Ioniq 5N, as the carmaker is working to improve the driver engagement with the car.
2027 Porsche Taycan: What’s New?
Porsche has equipped the Taycan with its virtual gearshift feature, also called as ‘E-Shift’, which comes integrated with a GT-sports steering wheel and column-attached paddle shifters. Now drivers can shift between eight simulated gears at a press of a dedicated button on the steering wheel.
AdvertisementAccording to Porsche, the gear changes via E-Shift sounds realistic and are simulated via shift jerks and gear-specific drag torque that works exactly like the engine braking behaviour in an ICE-powered car.

Apart from the paddle shifters, there is also an inclusion of a virtual rev limiter and a gearshift indicator in the digital instrument cluster in order to tell you which gear exactly you are in. Porsche has also introduced virtual engine sounds to the Taycan, which is defined as ‘Porsche Electric Sports Sound’.
Porsche states that it smartly adapts with the driving situation depending on the speed and engine load to provide accurate yet realistic sounds. However, the E-Shift is available as an optional extra on all Taycan variants, while the top-spec Turbo GT gets it as standard.
As per Porsche, they have done unique transmission mapping and sound characteristics for each model, thus providing each variant with a different feel and driving experience.
