Audi has confirmed that they are all set to revive the nameplate for A2 and will be launching in its upcoming entry-level electric hatchback. The A2 will be coming back after two decades after the original hatchback was phased out of production.

The new electric hatchback is set to launch in India at the end of 2026 and will be an important part of Audi’s electric lineup which will be accessible to a wider market. The upcoming model will also replace the current A1 hatchback and the Q2 SUV, which will be out of production once the A2 is launched.

Audi’s Entry-Level Electric Car

According to Audi, the upcoming A2 electric hatchback will be the brand’s entry-level electric car which will expand the overall presence of Audi’s electric portfolio.

The CEO of Audi, Gernot Dollner expressed his views on this and said, “The A2 E-Tron will be specifically designed to offer efficiency, compactness and confidence. Thus we are making the electric Audi lineup more accessible and relevant.”

Audi A2 Architecture & Positioning

The new A2 will be underpinned by Volkswagen Group’s MEB electric platform, which is the same platform used to design models like Volkswagen ID.3. In terms of dimensions and size, the new Audi EV will have a striking resemblance to the ID.3 hatchback, although its design will carry crossover inspired styling cues. The model is set to be produced at Audi’s Ingolstadt plant situated in Germany.

Audi A2 Expected Design

As per the spy images and visuals, the new A2 could be designed with a compact, tall-body design language with crossover inspired styling elements, giving a striking resemblance to the original A2 sold between 1999 and 2005.

Audi has stated that the name of the A2 has been the deliberate reference to the original model which was recognised for lightweight platform and aerodynamic design. The new electric model will be made with a similar design reference and will be designed to provide aerodynamic efficiency and lots of interior space within compact dimensions.
