Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Launches 400 Electric Buses as Part of the DEVI Initiative

Delhi's National Capital Territory has rolled out the DEVi initiative, which will deploy 400 electric buses to link Metro Stations and major bus stops across the city.

This initiative will develop public awareness and will promote EV adoption, along with that it will also ensure an improved transport accessibility for better connectivity. Under the leadership of Smt Rekha Gupta, the Chief Minister of Delhi, this initiative will take shape.

The DEVi buses inaugural run was commenced by Chief Minister Smt Rekha Gupta under the presence of Union Minister of Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan and other Government officials. 

Importance of DEVi Initiative 

The main aim of the DEVi initiative is to address the issues in the public transportation sector by integrating a seamless connectivity between metro stations and surrounding areas. 

As per plan, the buses will function in East and West Delhi, which will include areas such as Ghazipur, Vinod Nagar East, and Nangloi. With a total of 23 seats, the bus includes 6 specifically for women and can also fit 13 standing passengers. Some of the highlights of DEVi Initiative include

• Fares are established between Rs 10 and Rs 25, while women can travel at no cost. The Buses will be coming in the time interval of 10 minutes.
• Within the DEVi Initiative, you'll find cutting-edge elements of the Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS), including GPS tracking, automatic passenger counting, digital route displays, voice announcements, CCTV monitoring, panic buttons, wheelchair ramps, and flooring tailored for better accessibility.

The Chief Minister, Smt Rekha Gupta, expressed her views on the launch event by saying, “The Government is actively working towards transforming Delhi’s Transportation system with integrated smart mobility solutions. The launch of DEVi is just a step forward to achieve this vision and will solve the critical challenges of last mile connectivity faced by the urban commuters every day.  

DEVi initiative will provide eco-friendly, seamless, and cost-effective commuting solutions with enhanced green mobility producing zero carbon emissions.
