Honda Shine 100 is set to receive an all-electric version, as indicated by recent patents.

Honda is currently working on developing an affordable electric bike specifically for budget users looking for an electric motorcycle for daily commutes. The Japanese manufacturer has recently filed for patent application for their new electric motorcycle, which has revealed the vision of Honda’s upcoming EV design and their dedicated strategy to set up their electric lineup in India.
The company is also planning to position their upcoming cost-effective e-motorcycle specifically for the affordable segment, as there is a huge customer base of consumers looking for motorcycles for routine urban commutes, which is now currently dominated by high cost electric motorcycles.
The Indian electric two-wheeler industry is currently led by electric scooters. Major startups in the industry like Ola Electric, Ather Energy, and big players like TVS Motor Company, Hero MotoCorp through its Vida have launched their respective scooters in the market, but the big legacy players have to still explore the market.
Honda Shine Electric Motorcycle: What Does the Patent Disclose?
The patent application filed by Honda has disclosed that they are currently working on a completely new electric motorcycle which will be constructed on a budget chassis of the Shine 100. Thus the company is developing an EV without investing on the new design and platform. The company is backing on the Shine’s successful market dominance as it sold more than 3,00,000 units in India in 2023 alone.
This smart strategy of reusing the brand’s popular chassis to develop a new electric motorcycle will save a huge amount of costs and time for Honda as developing an all new platform takes a lot of money and R&D, thus smartly integrating the existing frame and blending it accordingly for attaching the battery is a cheaper affair.
Honda has incorporated a single change in the platform, which is replacing the petrol engine with an electric motor. The main frame of the motorcycle is also identical to the original Shine. The patent image clearly shows that Honda has placed the battery on the same place where Shine 100’s engine is placed, and have attached it by using existing mounts.
Honda Shine E-motorcycle: Expected Design
Honda’s upcoming e-motorcycle will be using the same swappable battery packs used in Activa e, as noticed in the patent images. Honda will be integrating two removable battery packs, attached to the either side of the mid section of the tubular chassis, which is designed in a tilted way to accommodate seamlessly into the engine bay of the Shine 100.
There is also a small space between the two removable battery packs which seems like a free passage for the airflow in order to maintain the optimum temperature of the batteries, with the ECU placed just behind the batteries. Each of the batteries weigh around 10.2 kgs as revealed in the patent application.
Honda Shine Electric Motorcycle India Launch
Honda has already made a debut in the highly competitive Indian market with its latest Activa e. The company’s vision for Shine e-motorcycle could be their next big launch in the budget segment.
However the company has not provided any specific details, but it is expected that Honda could launch Shine electric motorcycle in 2026, going by the fact that company is using the same chassis and integrating the batteries in it, which will require less time and effort with just a pinch of modification to the existing Shine 100 platform.
Honda has also established their battery swapping network and are constantly improving their services to support the Activa e electric scooter, as the same battery swapping network will be supporting the Shine electric motorcycle.
