Tata Motors are constantly evolving in the field of EVs with every new launch and after the launch of their all electric Harrier EV, they are constantly reinventing themselves and making EV mobility exciting for users. Apart from Harrier EV, Tata will also be introducing Sierra EV scheduled to be launched later this year.

Tata will support the Avanya series of electric vehicles using their newest Gen 3 skateboard EV platform. During the Harrier launch, Vivek Shrivasta, the Chief Commercial Officer at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, provided insights into the forthcoming EVs and confirmed that the Avinya series will be launched in 2027.

This confirms that the Avinya project has been delayed by at least 2 years, as Tata was planning to introduce Avinya to the Indian market in 2025, when the company first displayed the Avinya concept way back in Auto Expo 2022. Previously, Tata announced that the inaugural car from Avinya EV would debut in 2026, but this has now been postponed to a 2027 launch.

Tata Avinya EVs: Reasons for the Delay?

Tata Motors are going through various delays because to launch the Avinya EVs, Tata motors are jointly collaborating with Land Rover through an MoU to integrate the company’s EMA architecture. However, the establishment of Land Rover's manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu is facing delays.

Now Tata Motors are looking for other options such as a cost-effective version of the EMA architecture or using a platform from outside the group.

Tata Avinya's EVs will feature a skateboard platform

Currently, all the EVs under Tata’s lineup are developed on existing ICE platforms called as Gen 2 Acti.ev which also includes the upcoming Sierra EV. However, the Avinya models will be all-electric and will be using a new platform exclusively made for EVs termed as Gen 3 skateboard born-electric platform.

This new platform will be incorporating heavy structural changes to the car’s design such as completely flat floors, well utilized cabin space, and radical styling, which will reinvent the company’s premium range of EVs.

Srivasta also put a special emphasis on providing a completely new radical styling with the Avinya EVs, as compared to the evolution of Harrier EV from its ICE counterpart’s existing platform.

Avinya’s First P1 EV Model

The P1 is ready to become the first electric vehicle from the Avinya lineup to enter the Indian EV scene. It will be manufactured on-site at Tata's Sanand facility. The P1 will be totally based on Avinya Concept as showcased in 2022, currently, this EV is in development phase.

It is expected that the P1 will be positioned for the premium market and can be priced more than Rs 35 Lakh thus making it the most expensive EV of Tata, till more products are introduced in the market.
