Blackbuck Electric Vehicles Pvt Ltd, which is a Hyderabad-based electric bus manufacturer has entered into a Memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Telangana in order to establish an exclusive electric bus manufacturing facility in Telangana Future City. 

The MoU was signed under the presence of the Minister of Industries, Government of Telangana, Shri Duddilla Sridhar Babu along with the members of Industries & IT Department and the Automotive & EV industry. The MoU states that the government of Telangana has agreed to support the allocation of land and provide industry-related assistance regarding the project. 

Blackbuck EV will be investing USD 30 million in the next five years with an annual production capacity of up to 2,000 electric buses. The facility will be also manufacturing 

  • 15-meter and 13.5-meter electric sleeper coaches. 
  • 9-meter electric staff and school buses. 
  • 7-meter electric Mini buses. 

Telangana Govt & Blackbuck EV Sign MoU

According to the company, the existing facility has the initial production of 15-meter and 9-meter buses, until the new facility comes into operation. Blackbuck EV is constructing electric buses on skateboard platforms which covers sleeper coaches, urban buses, and mini-bus models. 

Current Situation

Blackbuck EV’s current 20,000 sq ft facility is currently utilised for R&D activities, prototype development, pilot batch creation, and initial production related works. From last year, the company has done road testing of a 13.5-meter electric seater bus and the production variant of 15m is currently under development and will be introduced soon. 

The OEM has also developed its in-house 9-meter electric bus, which is currently undergoing road testing. The official launch of the 9m model is expected soon in some months time.
