Volkswagen is making certain strategies for the Indian Automotive Market, as they are planning to launch an entry level EV in India. According to their recent speculations, an internal conference was held by Volkswagen in Wolfsburg, Germany, where they gave an overview of their new entry-level EV.

This concept will be called ID.One or ID.1 by Volkswagen and this can be an electric version of the new generation VW Polo, which is available for sale in the international markets. The shape of the car is likely to be styled like a crossover and it will be based on Volkswagen’s Modular Electric Drive (MEB) platform.

Volkswagen has also developed a pre-production prototype, which will be displayed next month, as they are planning to launch the production model till the year 2027. However at the current stage, Volkswagen has not given any official confirmation about its launching.

ID.One Design

The image of the concept above gives a clear sign that Volkswagen is trying to reintroduce the new generation Polo with subtle tweaks to give it a modern look. It gets a sophisticated new modern design, with the striking looks of LED lighting elements that give a new look to the center fascia.

  1. The headlamps are also redesigned with a rectangular design with an integration of bracket-shaped LED accents on both sides.
  2. The bumper is also new and gets vertically placed LED DRLs that add a unique element to the design.
  3. Volkswagen has also added a cool illuminated VW Logo at the center to add a unique styling quotient to the concept.

ID.One Production and Expected Future

Volkswagen is strategizing the ID.One to be manufactured from the same facility in Spain, where Skoda Elroq also manufactures. They are even giving a hint by saying that the upcoming EV will be a new generation of their already successful product.

This will be good news, especially for Volkswagen Polo fans as it was one of the most popular yet fun to drive hatchbacks in India. Volkswagen Polo has a huge fanbase in India due to its looks and engine feel, thus the strategy of Volkswagen to reintroduce the favourite car of masses in an electric version can be a great move to rejoin with the customers through the emotional bond they have with their legendary Polo.

At the current stage, Volkswagen has only confirmed to launch the ID.One concept in Europe. The company is still uncertain about the launch of ID.One in India and other countries, as they are looking at every area that the particular concept can attract the audience well or not.

Volkswagen also indicated earlier that they are not interested in localising the concept’s MEB architecture in Indian markets, and to avoid this VW is working on a new platform for India, called the India Main Platform (IMP).

This platform will be developed exclusively for Indian Markets to manufacture cars with low costs. However, with the recent court cases imposed on the Volkswagen Group for the payback of $ 2.8 billion US dollars of Indian tax, the company’s future in India is still uncertain as it could impact the production and existence of many Volkswagen's upcoming cars.
