The Yamaha EC-06, originating from River Indie, has started its production.
The Yamaha EC-06 electric scooter, which was introduced at the end of 2025, has finally started its production at River’s factory in Hoskote, Karnataka. The EC-06 shares the same platform as the River Indie, but it has some different design cues and feature set.
Yamaha EC-06 to launch soon
A few years ago, Yamaha made several investments in Bengaluru-based startup River and has announced plans to co-develop electric models specifically for the Indian market. The EC-06 is the final product of this alliance and is based on the same architecture as River Indie.
Both scooters will be sharing a similar 4 kWh battery pack generating power of 6.7 kW, with a claimed top speed of 90 kph. Majority of the chassis parts and features are shared between the Indie and the EC-06.
However, Yamaha has differentiated its scooter from the River Indie on the basis of styling, which is more sharper and modern in design. The storage space is also more as compared to the Indie, which is quite similar to the petrol powered Suzuki Access.

Yamaha-River Partnership
The strategic alliance with River is quite promising for Yamaha as the Japanese manufacturer can seamlessly enter the market with its homegrown product, thus increasing the cost-effectiveness and rapidly strengthening its position in the Indian electric scooter market.
River is currently handling the manufacturing of EC-06, but it will be sold and serviced through Yamaha’s specific dealer and service network. As the production has started, the Yamaha EC-06 is expected to launch in coming months, at a similar price range of River Indie (Rs 1.46 lakh, Bengaluru).
