Mercedes AMG GT XX records on the Nardo track
The 24-hour benchmark, which is verified by Mercedes, is a part of an extensive 8-day campaign, covering the 12.5 Km long Nardo test track designed in the form of a ring. The GT XX has also shattered endurance records, achieving remarkable distances of 10,860 Km over 48 hours and 26,808 Km over 120 hours. Additionally, it set new distance records for 2,000 Km in just 8.4 hours, 20,000 Km in 88.41 hours, and 40,000 Km in 181.02 hours.
The remarkable feat occurred when the electric sports car completed a distance of 40,075 Km, effectively encircling the Earth, and did so continuously on the high-speed oval in a mere 8 days (181.24 hours). Mercedes dubbed this endeavor ‘Around the World in eight days,’ drawing inspiration from Jules Verne’s renowned novel, Around The World in 80 Days.
This record was achieved from two GT XX concept models and a team of 17 professional drivers from AMG’s GT3 motorsport programme, which included the Mercedes AMG F1 driver George Russel which has achieved the following benchmarks. The stops were only made during rapid charging through 850 kW of power.
Mercedes AMG GT XX Battery & Motors
POWER: The GT XX concept is the first series-production electric vehicle from Mercedes-AMG unit. Powering the GT XX concept is Mercedes’s self developed three compact lightweight axial flux motors, with two attached to the rear and one mounted at the front, together generating a thunderous power of 1,360 HP, integrated with all-wheel drive and a top speed of 360 Kph.
These motors are also seen at various other supercars like Lamborghini Temerario and Ferrari SF90 Stradale. The GT XX concept is the inaugural electric vehicle to incorporate these motors.
The 114 kWh NMC battery pack, which is jointly engineered by AMG One Hypercar and F1 Tech applies slim cylindrical cells with aluminium castings which regulates the temperature of the car at high speeds by providing better cooling and faster energy discharge.
A Direct cooling system helps in sustaining peak power consumption but also provides support via ultra-fast charging for the 800V battery, which could provide 400 Km of range in just 5 minutes of charge at a power of 850 kW.
