Audi's flagship electric SUV, a 4x4 model, is set to compete with the Defender and G Class, making its debut soon.

Audi is all set to compete in the luxury SUV segment with its all-new rugged 4*4 SUV to compete with the segment leading Mercedes G-Class and Land Rover Defender, as the CEO Gernot Dollner has given signs on the revelation of the all new SUV. Dollner clarified on the 4*4 SUV development and said, “Stay Tuned”, without telling the original launch date.
Audi’s upcoming flagship SUV will be coming with radical design changes and advanced technology features, thus giving a stiff competition to the already established players in the market, and there is also a news that it could be powered with all-electric powertrains.
New Audi 4*4 Electric SUV Details
The all-new model will be constructed on the automaker’s prestigious legacy of Quattro models and will be entering the most profitable segment of the market, where Audi was unpresented, as said by ex-Audi design boss Marc Lichte in 2023.
He further stated that, “There is a huge opportunity because there are only two premium established players in the luxury 4*4 segments, and according to me, there is definitely a space for the third one.”
However, Lichte left Audi soon after and was replaced by Massimo Frascella, who played an important role in shaping the legendary Defender at Jaguar Land Rover from 2011 to 2024. This has fueled various speculations that Audi may introduce a similar SUV.
The upcoming SUV will be following Audi’s new simplistic design philosophy, which was earlier showcased with the new Concept C displayed at the 2025 Munich Motor Show.
New Audi 4*4 SUV Electric Powertrains
Audi has not revealed the exact technical specifications for the upcoming new SUV but as per various reports, it could share the electric powertrains with the upcoming electric Traveler SUV from Scout Motors (Owned by Volkswagen). The Scout Traveller EV will be going against the likes of Defender.
