Tesla is all set to discontinue its flagship Model S and Model X, as the company is shifting its focus to autonomy, as confirmed by the CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk during the company’s latest earnings call. According to Musk, the production of both models could stop in the next quarter.
He further quoted, “If you are interested in purchasing the Model S and Model Y, this is a perfect time to confirm your orders as we will be bringing down the production till next quarter, and the company will stop the production till next quarter.”
However, Tesla will continue to provide service to its existing customers, even after the production ends. Musk confirmed this by saying, “We will obviously continue to provide services for Model S and Model X programs as long as people are owning the vehicles.”

Model S & Model X to not launch in India
Tesla has ruled the possibility of launching the Model S and Model X in India, as the company began the sales of Model Y in India this year, there were rumors of Model S and Model X to enter into the Indian market, but now both the models are coming to the end of the production, hence they will not be launched in India.

Fremont to Focus on Autonomous Production
This strategic shift will open manufacturing opportunities at Tesla’s Fremont factory located in California, Musk stated that the manufacturing facility is currently used to produce the Model S and Model X, but will be shifting its focus towards autonomous-focussed facilities.

The long term strategy of Musk is to increase its manufacturing capacity of producing one million Optimus robots annually.
