Ferrari’s New EV Strategy involves working alongside petrol and hybrid models instead of replacing them.
Ferrari has drafted their new electrification strategy which will be focussing on running multiple powertrain strategies rather than following the all-electric approach. This was confirmed by the Chief Executive Officer, Benedetto Vigna, at the IIT Bombay’s E-Summit 2025.
The Italian manufacturer will be developing its electric portfolio without sacrificing their impressive combustion engines or hybrids, as ICE engines are the foundation of what Ferrari is today and drives emotion and customer preference in these tight global regulations.
Vigna clarified further that Ferrari’s approach to electrification will be purely based on emotion and not regulation-based. He said further, “Today we are adding our own portfolio of cars and that is a mix of combustion, hybrid, and electric cars, we are not fully transitioning to electric mobility, but only getting updated with the technology.”

Ferrari Electrification Strategy
Vigna also defined Ferrari's EV strategy as “emotion-driven innovation”. He explained that there are three ways of innovating the company: introducing cutting-edge technology to the market, waiting for increase in demand, or channeling human emotion.
He also mentioned that, "What we are doing at Ferrari is of utmost significance as we will be tapping into human emotions by comprehending their needs and preferences, thereby creating cars that resonate with their feelings."
The hybrid lineup of the Ferrari includes the SF90 Stradale, 296 GTB and 296 GTS. The company has also confirmed that its fully electric Ferrari is all set to debut in 2026, although the technical details are yet to be revealed. As per Vigna, EVs are not new territories for Ferrari. He stated that, “The adventure began 16 years back with our inaugural hybrid vehicle.”

Ferrari EV Limitations
One of the biggest drawbacks for electric sports cars is restrained driving engagement as per Vigna. He addressed several issues such as.
- The two hindrances people dislike while driving an EV car is the excess weight of the batteries and lack of engagement to drive especially at top speeds, as there is no V12 or V8 roar at higher RPMs
- The excess weight of the electric cars make them uninvolving to drive. Vigna expressed this and said, “Electric cars are like elephants. However, our electric vehicle will resemble a spirited stallion." Ferrari plans to lighten its electric car, ensuring it remains below two tonnes.
- The power delivery is also linear as when we drive electric cars, it's like a motorbike without a gear change. However, Ferrari will be solving this problem through ‘Torque Shift Management’. This system will ensure that the electric Ferrari will be engaged the same way as a thermal Ferrari.
- As per Vigna, Ferrari has filed various patents and is monitoring closely with universities to engineer the electric driving feel.

Future Ferrari Cars could also run on Carbon Neutral Fuels
Vigna also cleared off the idea that electrification is the only source of sustainable energy. According to him, internal-combustion engines can be also modified through carbon-neutral fuels and can be also called as Biofuel and e-Fuel Carbon-neutral fuels. He also clarified further that, “With high costs on these technologies today, innovation can reduce these costs over time.
In Vigna’s view, electric and carbon-neutral fuels will coexist together and there will be two ways to power different types of Ferrari in the future.” With this, Ferrari will be preserving driving emotion and thrill of driving by retaining its ICE engines, fulfilling the customer choice and introducing new electric mobility by fulfilling the demands of innovation.
